What is Naturopathy?
Naturopathy is a lifestyle of practices which builds immunity, improves mental health and enhances body function. Every person has the right to learn of natural life-enhancing practices embodied in naturopathy which will help him/her maintain mental, physical and emotional health.
Naturopathic doctors are trained specialists in a separate and distinct healing art which uses non-invasive natural medicine. They are not orthodox medical doctors (M.D.s). Naturopathic doctors (N.D.s) may be conventionally trained in subjects such as anatomy, physiology, counseling, dietary evaluations, nutrition, herbology, acupressure, muscle relaxation and structural normalization, homeopathy, iridology, exercise therapy, reflexology, and hydrotherapy amongst other. Some practitioners are also trained in additional specialties such as acupuncture or natural childbirth. Ask your Naturopath for the specific education and training to assure yourself of the care you desire.
Naturopathy embodies philosophies and principles involving pure water, clean air, wholesome food, proper diet and nutrition, exercise, proper living, appropriate rest, right thinking, absence from toxic substances, body ecology, effective management of stress and a number of other natural subjects which lead to a balanced living concept.
How we care for our bodies is both a physical and spiritual issue which impacts our health and the health of our offspring. In cases where health principles have been violated the only true "cure" is for the body to restore its own protective mechanisms by removing those physical and spiritual roadblocks which hinder proper restoration and/or healing.
The first annotation in the dictionary defines "doctor" as a teacher. A naturopath is a teacher of natural means for enhancing health, wellness and longevity.
Naturopathic doctors tailor the philosophies and principles to the needs of the individual. Naturopathic doctors cooperate with all branches of medical science, referring individuals to other practitioners for diagnosis or treatment when appropriate.
Do Not Harm
Traditional naturopathy embraces only education, therapies or procedures which are designed to produce wellness.

Involve the Total Person
Naturopathic doctors are aware that a person can have a physical, spiritual or emotional problem. The chosen modality is determined by what kind of problem the person is experiencing. Naturopaths use various counseling, stress management and bio-feedback techniques for those experiencing emotional or spiritual problems.
